Back to Sewing: 1st Edition

I have had alot of inspiration to get back to my roots and start sewing again recently.  Yes, I have been sewing since I was 5 (thank you Grandma Faye) and actually majored in Costume Design in college where I got a little burned out.  Since then the most I have taken on is the occasional pillow, shower curtain, and duvet cover.  I was lucky enough to gain a fabulous mother in law in my marriage to Mr. R who, among with other wonderful atributes, is a phenomenal seamstress.  Momma D taught sewing for 30 years and I am hugely envious of her "sewing room" in Spartanburg.  After our trip last weekend and checking out her latest creations for the Reynolds baby girls, including smocking (YES she smocks!), I am thinking of venturing back into the world of sewing.  Lucky me, Vogue patterns had an amazing sale yesterday, patterns for $3.80 a pop and the sewing process begins!

Just One of Those Days

In case you have not heard there is a little storm off the coast named Irene.  Charleston at this point seems to be on the much luckier side than our friends to the north.  Right now its raining and we do have a fair amount of wind causing some power outages and trees down.  I know I am thinking of my OBX and VA cousins and wish them only the best (as well as everyone else in already declared state's of emergency).

This weather makes me sleepy and it does not help that I was up half the night hugging the toilet.  Note to self and all others, stay away from Hardees/Red Burrito.  However, I am starting to wonder if its a little bug since my tummy is still not A-ok after some of Campbell's best and some saltines.

What do I want right now more than anything?  My bed, with a big down comforter and a black puppy dog and orange kitty cat snuggled up with me.  Mr. R would be a nice addition too.  Wouldn't some of these swoon worthy beds be a welcomed treat this afternoon?

Monogrammed Mondays: Appliques

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  I sure did, even got to spend a DAY with Mr. R (a first since before Memorial Day).

I want to send a special Back to School shout out to our niece Miss K, who starts FIRST GRADE today and my bro-in-law RAR who is officially a TEACHER today!  We are also staying up to the minute with updates on the impending arrival of niece #4.  Could be any day/minute!  More on that and a Columbia baby shower later.

On to the wonderful world of appliques.  I view these as one of the most elegant versions of a monogram.  They are also the most customized and usually expensive.  They make fabulous wedding, baby or graduation gifts or create a blissful bedroom.  They have become quite popular with designers and mainstream companies like Pottery Barn are now getting in on the action.

Drumroll please...here we go!
