Weekend Recap

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that you were either able to see your mommas or atleast have a good phone call!  If you ARE a momma, I hope you were showered with love!

Mr. R and I were supposed to have gone back to Spartanburg for an engagement shower for some good friends K&B (wedding in June, woohoo!) but just couldn't make it work after being there two weeks ago and then leaving again Memorial Day weekend.  We are so sad we missed it AND missed spending Mothers Day with DRB!

Friday night our friends the MacCoys came over and we made homemade pizza and had a rummy tournament.  I lead most of the night and then Mrs. M pulled a fast one and beat me in the end.

Saturday we got up and got the oil changed on my car, went to Lowes for some hydrangeas and new window box flowers and then took a trip out to Kiawah with the MacCoys to go kayaking/fishing.  Against Mr. R's strong suggestion to go elsewhere we thought it would be a great idea to kayak against the incoming tide out to Captain Sam's Inlet, hang out, and then kayak back to Mingo Point against the wind and outgoing tide.  Needless to say my fingers even hurt from the paddling on Sunday.
We also had a little incident on the way back...somehow the fishing lines behind the kayaks got crossed (trolling in kayaks, I mean really...), one of the lines snapped and the other whip-lashed back and the hook caught my shoulder and cheek.  No, thank fully I did not look like a fish with a hook in my mouth but it scared the crap out of me!!!  Now two days, and some Neosporin later, my cheek is looking a whole lot better.

Sunday was pretty crappy weather wise but Mr. R and I were up early.  He and the boys (4 legged) gave me the beautiful hydrangeas for the yard and the flowers for the window boxes.  Mr. R was nice enough to plant them for me.  We spent some time wandering around Lowes dreaming of home projects, relaxing on the couch and then I made Sunday dinner--Oven Fried Chicken, Smashed Potatoes & Green Bean Casserole...YUMMMM

Kiawah On My Mind

Mr. R and I are headed out to a little piece of paradise called Kiawah Island this weekend with some of our BFFs, the Brewers.  If you have not had the chance to visit KI, YOU SHOULD.  There must be some reason that some of America's finest (Dan Marino, George Bush, Joe Binden, Tara Lapinski, Joe Gibbs, Oprah, Mariah Carey, ect.) have flocked to this island to visit or even dropped their bags and now call it home.  Maybe because it was voted one of America's Top Ten Beaches?  It might as well be the Hamptons of the South (which of course means its better!).

Mr. R and I met at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, working, fell in love and even got engaged on Kiawah Island.  This weekend should be beautiful and we plan to hit up some of our favorite past times.  We are celebrating our engagement anniversary (Oct 24), as well as an early first wedding anniversary (Nov 6) and a belated wedding anniversary of our friends the Brewers (Oct 17).  Let the celebrating begin!  A few sneak peaks of the island for your viewing...

Wanderlusting

WANDERLUST: a very strong and irresistable impulse or desire to travel the world.

Its no secret that Mr. R and myself are huge fans of world travel.  Our favorite TV show is Amazing Race and we pretend each episode that we are competing, we might even try out one day...if we can get in shape haha.  I was very fortunate to travel alot as a child and Mr. R has gone the more "wilderness" route with his Boyscout and NOLS adventures.  I come from a long line of wanderlusters and we are excited about our up and coming voyages to Kiawah and the western Carribean.  We hope to travel many places in our lifetime including a couple of these out of this world locals.  Where is the one place in the world you would drop everything to travel to?

Monogrammed Mondays: Croakies

Croakies, i.e. a sunglasses strap for you non-southerners, are a must for the summer season, anytime wearing your sunglasses when they have the slightest chance to fall off OR just because you think they make you look cool.  Now I do have a pair and honestly I need them since I am 150% klutz and would be postively sure I would lose the very nice pair of Costa del Mar sunglasses that Mr. R so kindly gave me.  What makes mine so perfect?  They are monogrammed...shocker, right?
I did have a revelation the other day that oh no, they are my old monogram!  Since we are coming up on our year anniversary, I guess its time to update!  These days the come in multitudes of colors and font styles.  I will probably stick with my brown with green but if you want a pair you can go crazy with the combinations!  Think groomsmens gifts, sorority gifts, for game day or just because;).

Sights & Sounds of Tour de Charleston

What a wonderful weekend!  Mr. R and I had such a fun time with the McPhersons and showing them around Charleston.  Here's a run down of the weekend.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Dr. AMM and I (and Mr. R, begrudgingly) shed a couple tears while drinking some red wine, eating bad food and watching "Something Borrowed."  I have read the books so was not surprised by the ending, but doesn't John Krasinski just steal the friggin show?  Rumor has it that Emily Giffin's next book, Something Blue, is in works for the big screen too!  Can't wait.

SATURDAY
First we went to the Marion Square Farmers Market and had an amazing time.  I forget how wonderful it is.
I had yummy cheese grits and the McPherson's sampled the world famous crepes.
We bought fresh flowers, handmade soaps for Dr. AMM's "Greek" bathroom, and saw interesting things like this...and they call ME the crazy cat lady...

Then we took a stroll over to East of the Cooper to the old Pitt Street Bridge for a beautiful view of the city!  I forget how gorgeous it is sometimes...

THEN we went to Trader Joes.  I can't beleive how fabulously cheap it is!  We stocked up, obviously Mr. M was very happy about the $$.

Saturday night we hit up The Fat Hen with a group of 9.  It was a great time and great food!  Mr. R got a burger with pimento cheese and carmelized onions, Dr. AMM got the salmon bernaise and both Mr. M and I got the crab cakes.  And we polished off two bottles of red wine...DELISH!!!!

SUNDAY
Unfortuneatly the weather did now allow for paddle boarding or "SUP"ing as we are now calling it (Stand Up Paddleboarding).  Apparently thats the cool way to say it.  The wind was too strong so we ended up just going to Station 30 a Sullivans.  We were enjoying ourselves having a nice little time with the McPhersons and all of a sudden EVERY SINGLE CHI-O from CofC was at our beach.  Guess that was their bid day party and we felt like we were in the middle of Spring Break Cancun 2k11.  Needless to say both Mr. R and Mr. M were not complaining...
HOPE YOU HAD A GRAND WEEKEND TOO, WE CERTAINLY NEED TO KEEP AN EYE THE ONE COMING UP!
